Nickel Silver is an alloy that has a warm silver color which is attained by adding nickel to bronze. Michael combines a high polished finish with brushed accents to generate a contemporary look. A stainless steel brush on a high speed lathe is used to create the brushed effects. The mirrored finish of polished nickel silver is achieved through varying degrees of sanding and buffing. Michael uses these techniques to highlight or accent the raised areas on a piece. This Door Knocker is modeled after the traditional symbol used in England to distinguish the residences of doctors.
