The Shih Tzu Dog Knocker ™ was designed by Michael Healy, an accomplished Rhode Island artisan who has loved dogs and is fascinated by the Shih Tzu’s unique appearance. Believed to be one of the oldest breeds of dogs, the Shih Tzu resembles a miniature lion. James Mumford described the recipe for creating the breed: “A dash of lion, several teaspoons of rabbit, a couple of ounces of domestic cat, one part court jester, a dash of ballerina, a pinch of old man (Chinese), a bit of beggar, a tablespoon of monkey, one part baby seal, a dash of teddy bear and the rest dogs of Tibetan and Chinese origin." The Shih Tzu Dog Knocker ™ is cast in solid bronze. The mold for the casting process is used only once, giving each Dog Knocker ™ its individual character. The Shih Tzu Dog Knocker ™ was treated with a dark patina, then hand polished and coated with a clear lacquer to protect its original finish.
